Western Truck Body Mfg. and Women Building Futures Make History

Western Truck Body Mfg. has had a long history with Women Building Futures. Since 2004 Western Truck Body Mfg. has been hiring Women Building Futures graduates, hosting worksite tours and providing work experience opportunities for Women Building Futures students.

The first graduate that WTB hired in 2004 has since gone on to achieve her standing as a Journeymen Welder. Since then, WTB has hired over 15 graduates of the program. Currently, we have 6 WBF graduates working as welders and in the sheet metal trade. They have all continued their education in the Alberta Apprenticeship program with one recently achieving her Journeyman Status.

Over the years Western Truck Body has embraced the work experience component of Women Building Futures programs to have the opportunity to observe the students before hiring them. We have also been considerate in hiring past graduates who find themselves looking for employment at various stages of their apprenticeships.

For the past 11 years WTB has hosted several worksite tours. The tours have included actual hands-on experience with welding and cutting and are always very well received by WBF students and staff.

A leader in trades training for women, WBF has extensive experience recruiting women into the heavy industrial workforce at a consistent employment placement rate of 90 per cent.

Graduates from the WBF programs go to employers prepared for immediate and successful integration into their worksite with safety certification, pre-tested for drug & alcohol & fitness to work, workplace culture readiness and hands-on experience.

WBF’s proven track record has been built on attracting the right people and providing them with the right training. The process begins with a rigorous applicant assessment delivered in partnership with SureHire Occupational Testing. Based on employer feedback, WBF graduates are among the best they’ve ever hired.
